ITB-ASET vs. Leuphana Study Skills test
If you’re applying to Leuphana from abroad or simply can’t make it to Lüneburg in person for the selection days, the ITB-ASET is the route for you.
But what exactly is this test? How does it compare to the on-campus study skills test? And should you prepare differently? Key differences between the ITB-ASET vs. the Leuphana Study Skills test will be addressed below.
What Is the ITB-ASET, and what is the Campus-Test?
The ITB-ASET (Aptitude and Skills for Engineering and Technology) is a standardised online academic aptitude test developed by ITB Consulting GmbH in Bonn.
You can take the test at authorised centres around the world or online in a proctored format. Leuphana accepts the ITB-ASET as a direct alternative to the in-person study skills test.
Importantly, the on-campus test was also developed by ITB. As a result, both test formats share a similar structure and assess comparable skills.
How does the ITB-ASET differ from the Study Skills test?
The ITB-ASET covers: Quantitative Problem Solving (mathematical reasoning), Linguistic Systems (similar to ‚Recognising Structures‘ in the campus test), and Diagrams and Tables (equivalent to ‚Analysing Interrelationships‘). The main difference: the concentration section (‚Careful and Focused Working‘) is not part of the ITB-ASET. Instead, Quantitative Problem Solving is prominent.
Practical implication: If you’re preparing for the ITB-ASET, focus especially on the quantitative reasoning section. If you’re on the fence between campus and online, note that strong concentration skills favour the campus test; strong maths skills favour the ITB-ASET.
Who should take the ITB-ASET test?
The ITB-ASET is mainly designed for:
- applicants who are abroad during the selection period
- applicants who cannot easily travel to Lüneburg
Keep in mind that the ITB-ASET involves an additional testing fee.
Our preparation books are available on amazon for both test formats.
