8 winning TestAS tips to get into medical school in Germany

Dreaming of becoming a doctor in Germany? You’re not alone — but that dream comes with competition. With thousands of applicants and limited seats, using effective TestAS tips for medical school Germany hopefuls can make all the difference in standing out.

The TestAS is a university aptitude test that many German medical schools use to evaluate applicants. This exam is one of the most powerful tools international students can use to boost their odds of getting accepted into medical school in Germany. And guess what? It’s not just about how smart you are. It’s about how well you prepare.

This guide gives you real TestAS hacks, inspired by Klea, a 19-year-old student from Kosovo who used these exact methods to master the exam — scoring 98% on the core test and 96% on the medical module. (Read Klea’s story here). Now she’s on track to enter medical school in Germany.

Let’s explore how you can do the same.

Hack: Build a two-month calendar broken into weekly goals — e.g., Week 1: Core Test logic drills; Week 2: Natural Sciences review.

Why it works: Cramming leads to burnout and forgotten concepts. Spacing out your learning improves long-term memory — essential for the TestAS.

Pro tip: Use a free tool like Notion, Google Calendar, or a paper planner and schedule study + review + mock test every week.

Hack: First decide whether you will take the digital or paper-based TestAS exam format. Then, print out the syllabus for that module. For the paper-based TestAS, the subject module is “Mathematics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences” module. Then, turn each section of the syllabus into a mini checklist.

This is your module if you’re applying for medicine and taking the paper-based TestAS. It’s designed to test:

  • Interpreting biological data (like survival curves and fitness graphs)
  • Understanding chemical equations
  • Working with visual models

🚫 Don’t waste time on unrelated modules — focus where it counts.

Hack: Get printed copies of your TestAS prep books and mark them up as you go. Highlight, annotate, and make notes as you study. We recommend:

Annotate margins with your own shortcuts. Build a formula bank on flashcards. This makes it easier to remember, understand, and quickly review crucial information later. Marking up your text turns passive learning into active learning!

Hack: Use a stopwatch app every time you solve problems. Give yourself 75% of the allowed time to simulate pressure.

Why it works: On exam day, most students fail due to stress and poor time management — not lack of knowledge.

Bonus: Practicing under stress makes real test day feel easier.

Hack: Find and join TestAS-focused groups where people discuss questions, share prep timelines, and give peer support.

Try searching:

  • “TestAS Medicine WhatsApp group”
  • “Study in Germany Discord”
  • Forums like The Student Room, DAAD, and Facebook groups

Why it works: Students share insider tips you won’t find in prep books — like tricky question types and interview stories.

Hack: Practice interpreting diagrams like:

  • Fitness graphs
  • Lab data
  • Experimental setups

Every practice session, pick one diagram and talk out loud: “This curve shows survival vs. time, and the difference between X and Y…”

Bonus activity: Watch YouTube videos on interpreting biology graphs — they use similar visuals to the TestAS.

Hack: For every topic, ask yourself:

  • “What’s the one-liner rule?”
  • “What’s the common trap here?”
  • “How can I eliminate 2 wrong answers fast?”

Remember, it’s not about knowing everything — it’s about staying calm and thinking smart.

Create cheat sheets that fit on a single A4 page per topic.

Hack: List 5 universities where your TestAS score adds GPA bonus points or is required for medical school entry.

Top options:

Look for phrases like “TestAS considered” or “bonus calculation” on their admission pages. This helps you apply smart, not wide.

Klea’s TestAS journey wasn’t perfect — but it was disciplined, strategic, and focused. With early planning, the right tools, and the willingness to train under pressure, she stood out — and you can too.

Hi. My city doesn’t have a TestAS testing center but I need to take the TestAS. Do you know how I can do that? Thank you!

    1. Hi Noor, thanks for the inquiry.
First, the authority on this question are the official test providers (who are not affiliated with us). Normally they prefer being contacted via email: kontakt@gast.de. I can tell you about our past experiences though: In cases where there was no authorized test centre in that country, they recommended travelling to a different country. Under these circumstances, you would be responsible for all associated costs, entry visas and the like. To our knowledge, there is no alternative solution, such an online test at your home, available as of 2025. If anyone has had a different experience, we would love to find out where and how the exam took place. Please share 🙂

Hi, I am searching for the 3rd prep book for the Medicine subject module on Amazon in English. I can’t seem to find it. Is this book available? If not, will it be made available soon? Thank you for your response!

    1. Hi Olivia, thanks for the inquiry.
Below is the link to the 3rd book of our digital TestAS medicine series, which is available as paperback version:
      https://amzn.to/3IgdkPD

We used to have a series link, but somehow it disappeared. Amazon is working on fixing these. Therefore, it was probably hard to find. Apologies for the inconvenience.

And we wish you much success in your exam and a speedy approval to your dream university in medicine afterwards 😊

All the best wishes from Munich,
