Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (KL Krems) -Medical Science

The Bachelor Program in Medical Science at KL Krems is a six-semester (3-year) degree taught entirely in English. It combines scientific knowledge with an interdisciplinary approach, preparing students for a seamless transition into medical training. Graduates who complete this program and the following master’s program receive a full medical degree. Please note, the Master’s program is taught in German.

The selection process consists of two main stages:
– Online Admission Test
– In-person Interview

Applicants must first register online via the KL Krems Admission Portal. Registration requires a valid photo ID and technical readiness for online testing.

The admission test lasts approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, including instructions and registration. It is conducted online under proctoring — your webcam, microphone, and screen are monitored live.

Test Structure (no breaks between sections):

– Solving Quantitative Problems: 12 scored exam questions (+3 sample questions) with 34 min to solve the 15 questions in total
– Identifying Rules: 12 scored exam questions (+3 sample questions) with 22 min to solve the 15 questions in total
– Analyzing Texts: 12 scored exam questions (+3 sample questions) with 30 min to solve the 15 questions in total
– Analyzing Graphs and Tables: 12 scored exam questions (+3 sample questions) with 34 min to solve the 15 questions in total

No specific subject knowledge is needed. The test evaluates logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and critical thinking. Answers are not penalized if guessed, so answering every question is encouraged.

An online proctored exam is an exam which is taken remotely while under supervision. While taking the exam, a test proctor will monitor your computer remotely via webcam and specialized software to ensure academic integrity. This process requires a PC/laptop to take the exam, as well as an additional smartphone/tablet (for a second camera angle).

Here’s how it works:

1. Registration & Setup
   • You register for the exam through an online portal.
   • Before the test, you need to install a secure browser or proctoring software.
2. Identity Verification
   • Before starting, you’ll be asked to verify your identity using a valid photo ID (like a passport or driver’s license).
3. Environment Check
   • The proctor may ask you to show your surroundings with your webcam to ensure you’re in a quiet, private space with no unauthorized materials.
4. Monitoring During the Exam
   • Your screen, webcam, and sometimes microphone are monitored throughout the exam.
   • Proctors watch for suspicious behavior like looking off-screen, someone else entering the room, or using a phone.

Things to Prepare:

• A clean desk with only allowed materials.
• A stable internet connection and operating system of Windows 7 or higher, Mac OS X or higher, or most Linux systems
• Power supply for both devices
• A webcam and microphone, as well as a secondary device
• Internet browser: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Moxilla Firefox. Only these browsers are permitted. If you do not have one, they will need to be downloaded prior to the exam.
• A quiet, well-lit room
• Your ID

The highest scoring students from the online exam will be invited to the second stage of the admission process – the in-person interview. Invitations will be sent 10-14 days after the evaluation of the written online exam.

The in-person interview will be conducted at the KL Krems campus and should take around 1 hour.

The interview will be conducted in English and focuses on interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. The interview will be conducted by six different lecturers from KL Krems.

The interviewers will each pose a scenario where your reaction and reponses will be observed. Two of the scenarios will be role-playing situations which are played out by live actors.
