The Deltaprüfung (Feststellungsprüfung Delta) is a specialized university entrance exam in Germany. It allows vocationally qualified applicants (especially those with a Meisterbrief, Fachwirt, or equivalent qualification) to gain access to university studies, even without a traditional Abitur within Baden-Württemberg’s state universities and universities of teacher education. Please note, the Deltaprüfung is only offered in German.

You should consider the Deltaprüfung if you:

• Do not have a regular Abitur or Fachhochschulreife.

• Have completed vocational training and have a master craftsman certificate (Meister), technician qualification (Techniker), or similar advanced vocational qualification.

• Want to study at a university (not just a university of applied sciences, „Fachhochschule“).

Exam dates vary depending on the university or institution administering the test. Generally:

• The exam is held once or twice a year, typically in spring and/or autumn.
• You should check directly with the institution where you plan to take the exam for exact dates.

Tip: Apply well in advance (often 6–8 weeks before the exam date).

Costs vary by institution, but typically range from 100€ to 200€. Some universities may charge a bit more for administrative fees

The exam is usually held at selected universities or Studienkollegs in your federal state. Examples include: DHBW, University of Mannheim, Hochschule Esslingen

You’ll need to check the individual university’s website to confirm whether they offer the Deltaprüfung and how to register.

The Deltaprüfung is a aptitude test that does not require any specific subject knowledge. Please note, it does not replace additional subject-specific study aptitude tests that may be required at some universities.

The Deltaprüfung lasts 185 minutes and consists of a total of five different groups of tasks.
